Emergency First Aid at Work

Where a workplace first aid risk assessment identifies the need for emergency first aiders in the workplace, this one-day qualification meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

How long is an Emergency First Aid at Work course?

A minimum of six contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities. The course can be split over multiple sessions providing it is completed within 4 weeks of starting the course and the training sessions last for a minimum of two hours, for example we have delivered this course for many clients who needed night shift workers trained. So we conducted x2 sessions over two nights each lasting three hours which allowed the staff to still be productive for the business.

What topics will be covered?

This course provides basic life saving first aid skills and knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations, covering:

  • Responsibilities and reporting

  • Assessment of the situation

  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty

  • Basic hygiene in First Aid

  • Resuscitation, CPR and the safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator

  • Anatomy

  • Minor injuries

  • Bleeding control

  • Burns

  • Choking

  • Epilepsy

  • Shock

Is there an assessment?

Practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor.

What qualification will I receive?

Successful candidates receive a FAA level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) valid for three years.

How many students can attend each course?

A maximum of 12 students are allowed per one instructor and must be a minimum of 14 years of age. We can train more than 12 students in one session however we will need to bring in another instructor which will naturally affect the cost of the course.

A student cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace until they reach the age of 16.
