First Aid at Work

Where a workplace first aid risk assessment identifies a need for a first aider in the Workplace, this course will give the participants a qualification to the highest level of First Aid.

How long is a First Aid at Work course?

A minimum of 18 hours spread over at least three days. Ideally, the course should be run over three consecutive days, however providing it is completed within 10 weeks of starting the course and the training sessions last for a minimum of two hours we can be flexible.

Is there an assessment?

Summative practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment for unit 2.

What qualification will I receive?

Successful candidates receive an F.A.A accredited Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (Level 6 in Scotland) valid for three years.

How many people can attend a first aid at work course?

A maximum of 12 students are allowed per 1 instructor and must be a minimum of 14 years of age, however a student cannot assume a responsibility in the workplace until they reach the age of 16. We can accommodate more than 12 students in one session we will just have to bring additional instructors.

What is covered in an First Aid at Work course?

This course provides basic life saving first aid skills and knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations, covering:

  • Legalities, responsibilities and reporting

  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty

  • Fractures and spinal injuries

  • Resuscitation, CPR and safe use of an Automated External Defibrillator

  • Assessment of the situation

  • Control of bleeding (including catastrophic hemorrhage)

  • Poisoning

  • Shock (including Anaphylaxis)

  • Bandaging

  • Heart attacks

  • Head injuries

  • Eye injuries

  • Sprains and strains

  • Chest injuries

  • Asthma

  • Diabetes

  • Stroke

  • Burns

  • Epilepsy

  • Choking
