Manual Handling Principles and Practice

This course provides an ideal approach to safer and more effective manual handling, not only meeting HSE recommendations, but also promoting good and safe practices in any situation. Regulations require employers to provide their employees with health and safety information and training - supplemented, as necessary, with more specific information and training on manual handling injury risks and prevention.

How long is an accredited manual handling course?

Our F.A.A regulated course is a 6-hour course which will include role specific practical demonstrations and learner practices.

How many people can attend each course?

A maximum of 16 students are allowed on our regulated courses and must be a minimum of 14 years of age to qualify. Bespoke course student numbers can vary depending on your requirements. For a non-regulated option we can accommodate more than the regulated 16 students, providing the space available is sufficient as we will not want to compromise the learners experience. We suggest a maximum of 25 students per session.

Can you offer shorter courses?

We can offer a more tailored non-accredited session based on your specific requirements. The course length of this non-regulated option will ultimately depend on several factors but work off the 3 hour mark so there is potential scope to run two separate sessions in one day. It’s important to note that a non-accredited certificate of attendance will be issued, but we will still cover all of the topics listed below.

What topics are covered in a manual handling principles and practice course?

A range of subjects are covered that will equip delegates to:

  • Understand the reasons for safe manual handling

  • Understand how manual handling risk assessments contribute to improving health and safety

  • Understand the principles, types of equipment and testing requirements associated with manual handling safety

  • Be able to apply safe manual handling principles

Is there an assessment?

Practical assessment is on-going by the instructor, culminating with a written test.

What qualification will I receive?

This is a level 2 F.A.A accredited award. If you opt for the non-regulated option then a certificate of attendance will be issued. This qualification does not expire, but refresher training and keeping up to date with changes to policies and procedures is vital to keep the qualification current.
